GATE

GATE

As Sesshin Duo, which was founded in the belief that understanding and interpreting contemporary music is only possible by re-thinking and interpreting 20th-century music, we are delighted to announce that our first album GATE is finally out! This album was released in 2021.

Among the works for four hands chosen by the duo for this album, those by Debussy and Ravel evoke a fairy-tale imagination, depict nature, and offer a childlike narrative, while Satie's work presents a satirical critique of the Romantic style of Impressionism and its preoccupation with form.

Upcoming Project

Journey

Sesshin presents a selection for four hands in his second album, featuring a repertoire that spans from the 17th to the 20th century. This journey was crafted to showcase the musical evolution from Bach to Walton, all performed for four hands. The repertoire includes works by J. S. Bach, W. A. Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Erik Satie, and William Walton.

Vision

"The action or power of imagination"

This Vision was born from Sesshin's desire to engage with the present, driven by its dream of moving towards an egalitarian and socialist future in opposition to the decay of neoliberalism. In this album, the duo interprets anthems of rebellion that have become the voice of the working class and the people, transcending language, race, gender, and borders—songs that have refused to be silenced since they were first sung. Sesshin has carefully arranged the pieces for four hands, maintaining their anthem-like forms and simplicity.
